There are plenty of fantastic campsites spread all over Scotland which provide a great base to explore from. Campsites range from 5* luxury sites with amazing facilities, to very basic 1* sites that simply provide a place to rest.
Campsites can offer a secure overnight stop with the service points for you to be able to maintain your campervan or motorhome with ease whilst you are touring Scotland, as well as providing great camaraderie amongst the campers.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay that offers a much quieter, discrete stay – look at some of the smaller private campsites and also have a look at the ‘Certified Locations’ (CL’s) listed on the bigger Club websites. The CL’s are quite often very basic and normally only offer a couple of camping pitches.
The Scottish camping website is a fantastic resource for planning your campsites when touring Scotland. On the website you can view the campsite information, facilities and contact details for a huge variety of sites. You can also purchase a copy of the Scottish campsite map to take with you on your travels, which has a comprehensive list of sites and contact details printed so that you can use it on the go!
The Brit Stop book features country pubs, farm shops, breweries, etc. all offering an invitation through the Brit Stops scheme to stay overnight in your motorhome or campervan in a safe environment – free of charge! These are not camp sites, so won’t have shower blocks or overnight toilet facilities, but you do get a pleasant stopover somewhere off the road, and a bit different.
Whether you choose to holiday with a caravan, tent, motorhome, campervan or any other touring unit, the Camping and Caravanning Club offer an excellent range of pitches and facilities. You can join the club to benefit from over 100 years of expertise, as well as specially selected discounts tailored to members. Most sites welcome non-members and some sites are also linked to the Camping in the Forest scheme.
Membership of the Caravan and Motorhome Club (formerly The Caravan Club) gives you access to one of the largest campsite networks in the UK and across Europe, including thousands of privately owned 5-van sites (Certificated Locations), plus you can save money on campsite fees. The club has been supporting camping since 1907 and they also offer a huge range of products and services to members.
